How to Clean and Care for Suede Leather Articles

Although caring for these leathers requires some skill and specialized tools, effective products are available to maintain the beauty and softness of these sought-after materials and to offer suede protection from damp and dirty environments. Spray-on waterproofing compounds can help suede and nubuck resist the damage that water or other liquids can cause, and also can protect from mud or soil. We carry several options that prepare your fine napped leathers well to resist moisture and dirt.
Should suede items become soaked, a good first step toward restoring their softness and nap is to blot the surface with an absorbent towel and to stuff structured items such as shoes or the sleeves of a jacket with sac moisture absorbents to wick out the water. A suede cleaning brush can be used on the surface of the leather can help revive the nap and begin the suede cleaning and drying process.
Stubborn stains can be handled with some clever suede care products we stock such as one of our nubuck and suede gum erasers or sponges, which work mechanically by rubbing a specially made block of absorbent material over the problem area. These sponges or erasers lift off the stains by both pulling the dirt into the block and working the somewhat crumbly eraser material into the stain, and then brushing the particles off along with the grease or dirt.
Specially made brushes clean suede with metal or plastic bristles, or a combination of both, and when used gently not only act as an effective suede spot remover but also rejuvenate worn or flattened nap. We have sourced some brushes with a crepe or embossed rubber surface that act as an eraser, and include a row or rows of bristles to freshen the nap after the crepe or rubber removes the dirt or stain, a very convenient and effective two-in-one approach to suede stain removal.
Suede and nubuck retain or regain their softness and luxurious feel after the use of these intelligently crafted suede cleaners, extending the life of your precious shoes, boots and apparel. Never fear buying suede or nubuck again.
